About Us
Who We Are
Welcome to the website of the Newton Depot, home of the Southeastern Narrow Gauge & Shortline Museum. Our museum is a 3-part campus including the historic 1924 Newton Depot, the Alexander Railroad Pavilion, and the Model Railroad Center. The Newton Depot was restored from 1997-2005 and features historic railroad artifacts. The Alexander Railroad Pavilion houses full size railcars restored by the Alexander Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society - western NC's oldest railroad preservation organization. The Model Railroad Center hosts many operating model layouts include Wade’s Train Town and the museum’s gift shop. All three components weave together technology and history against the backdrop of local heritage.
At the center of our 4-acre campus is an authentic Southern Railway depot, built in 1924. The depot houses our indoor museum, offices, and rental facilities.
